The Unpredictability of Nature in Real Time
New EP by Peter Rosendal: Sø
Following the success of his album Vejviser, composer and pianist Peter Rosendal returns with a new EP, Sø, set for release in February. While Vejviser explored humanity's place in the world through compositions and improvisations inspired by Danish landscapes, Sø delves into the unpredictability of nature in real time.
Rosendal records live with windows and doors open, allowing the sounds of nature—wind, thunder, rain—to blend seamlessly with the acoustic pianos in his studio. With one hand on each piano, he plays two instruments simultaneously: a Steinway and a Hornung & Møller. The soft, shadowy tones of the Hornung & Møller create a sense of depth behind the clear resonance of the Steinway, together forming a dynamic piano landscape that interacts with nature’s shifting scenery.
The result is an EP that blurs the lines between human-made music and the Earth's fundamental soundscape. The decay of old instruments in symbiosis with nature’s cycles. A glimpse into the darkness of the forest floor, the sound of the lake just centimeters above the water's surface, captured at the precise moment when everything peaks—the fleeting summer thunder, followed by sharp cries of warning.
With Sø, Peter Rosendal continues his captivating exploration of the interplay between humanity, music, and nature, creating a listening experience that is both unique and unpredictable.
Just like on Vejviser, Peter has collaborated with his longtime partner, producer Mads B. B. Krog Mossin, on Sø.
The EP will be released on Friday, February 21, and will be available on all streaming platforms.
